creators Project: The Treachery of sanctuary

"One directional art is very much the art presented to you, this is also about how you're presenting yourself to the art." – Chris Milk

"Forward thinking director Chris Milk came to us to execute his latest vision. He showed us sketches of an idea for a large triptych involving a user’s shadow interacting with shadows of realistic birds.

We knew we could achieve this using new technologies available to us. First, we chose the Unity game engine to encapsulate the visuals in order to give the birds a fully realistic 3D personality. Next, using Microsoft Kinect for Windows and openFrameworks, we hand crafted a one-of-a-kind interaction that made the user feel they were viewing their shadow interacting with real ravens.

At The Creators Project opening San Francisco, we created three 25-foot installations that spanned the entire width of a hangar. We fabricated a reflecting pool to keep the user in contact with Kinect sensors and prevent people from getting too close to the screens". – Fake Love
